When you want a hair transplant done properly the first time around, Toronto is a great place to get one. Here at The Hair Loss Recovery Program we provide a variety of different hair loss solutions; this way you can choose which treatment is best for you.
One of the most effective procedures involves hair transplants. If you know little about this treatment and are in need of a comprehensive guide about it, we have offered some important information in this blog post.
What Is It?
If you know little to nothing about hair transplants, it’s important we first discuss what they are. In simplest terms, a hair transplant is a surgical procedure that takes grafts from healthy parts of the hair (usually the back of your head), and implants them into the areas where the hair is gone.
When you think about how the healthy parts of your hair are programmed by your body, they are different from the places where hair doesn’t grow. When you take hair from these areas and place them into an area that works on a different pattern, it can change. In more basic terms, this means we take the healthy spots and transfer their growth patterns into the sparse/hairless parts of your head. These spots patterns will then change and begin to grow hair like the other parts on your head.
Many people suffering from alopecia get this treatment done, as well as anyone who is generally suffering with patches of hair loss. The treatment is very effective, and in most cases it brings your hair back to its proper evenness and volume.
The Perfect Candidate
Since this treatment involves moving healthy hair and their growth patterns to other areas on the head, you must have two important factors checked off the list before getting this done. They are:
- A healthy patch of hair for the transplant process to be successful. Without enough hair, this procedure cannot be done.
- A generally good health record. Certain medical conditions may interfere with your approval for this surgery.
The Procedure
Before any part of the transplant is performed, a small needle will be used to inject a local numbing agent to the donor area. Once that is completed, there are two ways in which the hair can be collected:
-
- FUE: This procedure involves hundreds (or thousands) of microscopic incisions into the scalp to get rid of the hair follicles. A surgeon will then create more tiny holes into the site where the hair needs to be placed. Once preparation is complete, the hair will be transferred. Thousands of hairs can be moved within just one session of this type of transplant.
- FUT: This procedure involves a surgeon removing a narrow strip of skin from the back of your head. The length of said strip will entirely depend on how much hair you need transplanted. The incision is stitched up soon after, and the strip that was taken is then sectioned into tiny pieces. After that, the surgeon will create tiny incisions on the area where hair loss is present, and take the pieces of the donor strip and transplant them into said area. The stitches from the strip incision will, on average, be removed ten days post-surgery.
The Benefits of This Treatment
While we know that the surgery in and of itself sounds quite intimidating, professionals do everything to make the treatment as painless and comfortable as possible. The advantages after it is done truly makes this procedure worth it, and include:
- Natural looking results. If a transplant is done by the right people (such as us here at The Hair Loss Recovery Program), your end results should be natural looking to the point of perfection. In most cases, it won’t even look like a transplant. Since it’s your own hair, both the texture and the colour stay the exact same as the other parts of your hair!
- The end result is permanent. Unlike treatments that involve medication, hair transplants are completely permanent. This is because the hair that is transferred comes from an area that is not affected by hair loss, leaving you with results that will grow all the way into your older years.
- Not majorly invasive. While this treatment is technically invasive on paper, it is invasive on a very small scale. The incisions heal extremely quick, recovery time is surprisingly short, and if scars are left hair will almost always end up concealing them anyway. This leaves you with a final look that doesn’t even indicate you’ve had anything done!
