Have you looked at your hairline, and noticed one is receding more than the other? Maybe one just has less hair and it’s starting to concern you? As people get older, hair loss is a common occurrence. This usually takes place around one’s teenage or adult years. This is when the hairline starts receding ever-so-slightly. It may also become less defined, looking faded overtime.

This process is known as a “maturing hairline”, and is natural in both women and men. This usually doesn’t mean that you are balding, but if the hair continues to recede and lose its volume more and more, you may be experiencing some signs of pattern baldness.

Pattern baldness (AKA Androgenetic Alopecia), is considered common in men and women, and is usually irreversible. Statistically, it affects around 50 million men and 30 million women in the United States alone. Oftentimes, there are a number of causes for this balding, including but not limited to hormone levels, genetics and aging.

Although an uneven hairline cannot be completely stopped in its tracks, there are a number of different ways to slow down the hair loss process. We here at The Hair Loss Recovery would like to explain what these things are, and how they can help benefit your hair in the long run.

Maintain A Healthy Diet

Just as your diet impacts the inside of your body, your diet also impacts the outside of it as well. This means organs such as your skin and, you guessed it, your hair. When you are looking to slow down the process of hair loss, try foods packed with antioxidants. Foods like pecans, beans, walnuts and berries are all great options when you’re looking for a boost in antioxidants. Make sure you are also getting all the important vitamins such as Vitamin E, B12 and A. In addition to nuts being packed with antioxidants, they also lower DHT levels, which is a hormone that causes hair loss in men. When you are looking to keep your DHT hormones low, be sure to eat cashews, almonds and pecans.

Cut Out Unhealthy Habits

Since we’re on the topic of making sure to eat healthy things, you should also be aware of the fact that avoiding unhealthy habits helps slow down the process of hair loss as well. This means things such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. Once you’ve cut down/cut off these habits, getting exercise and avoiding unhealthy food will help in the long run.

Try To Lower Your Stress Levels

We understand that losing hair in and of itself can cause stress, and this can often keep you stuck in a cycle, but stressing out causes an increase in hair loss. In order to keep stress at bay and minimize your overall levels of stress, be sure to try out relaxation exercises such as yoga, meditation and quality time outdoors. These will all help relax your body and mind, lowering your overall stress and slowing down the hair loss process.
