There are ways in which you can unintentionally make a bad hair day worse with cheap hair extensions or other hairpieces. We are here to go over what you can do to avoid the common mistakes people make once they experience hair loss

Just because you are experiencing hair loss doesn’t mean that you need to give up your sense of style or your personal look. There are still many ways in which you can maintain and keep your previous look without compromising on anything. However, depending on the severity of your hair loss, certain styling methods will be challenging. Depending on where you are losing your hair and how much will depend on the best choice of styling for you. One of the first recommendations we have is to see a professional hair stylist that you trust. They will be able to cut, colour, and shape your hair in a way that will be able to highlight your best features while hiding the hair thinning or balding (to a certain degree), depending on how much hair you have lost. Another option, if you don’t have a good hair stylist, is to consult a hair loss specialist or a dermatologist. These professionals should be able to recommend a reputable hair salon with stylists they know are able to help you out. Now, we are going to go over things you should avoid doing because they will make your hair loss look much worse.

Spray-On Hair

Although they make this look appealing in the commercials, this method for hiding hair loss actually accentuates the issue. Any spray on coloured powders and keratin particles have a high potential to look artificial, drawing even more attention to unwanted hair loss areas. These products are only moderately effective for thinning spots on the crown of the head and the very top of the scalp. This is due to low hair density where the scalp is showing through. If you still wish to try out this method, make sure that you pick a shade that is complementing your skin tone. Also, the darker shades can be more artificially noticeable. It is advisable to also avoid shades that are too brash or unnatural looking for your complexion, these will draw attention and look obviously fake. Complementing your complexion will make things less obvious.

Cheap Wigs

More often than not, men’s hairpieces look unnatural, unless they are made with human hair. These real hair pieces also need to be regularly maintained by a professional hair stylist. Buying real hair wigs and maintaining them can be quite pricey. However, it can also be completely worth the money. For women in particular, getting a high-quality, carefully styled wig, or even a partial wig, can make a huge difference in minimizing the look of hair loss. It is important to make sure that the wig is actually made of real human hair, in order for it to look the most authentic. High-quality wigs are a great way to maintain confidence in your appearance.

Cheap Hair Extensions

All hair extensions are for adding length to existing hair, not covering up hair loss. It is not a good idea to waste your money on this. It doesn’t matter if the extensions are cheap or not. They will not hide hair loss. If you are struggling with hair loss, you are looking for something with more coverage, not length. A good alternative is to locate a good professional hair stylist who is able to cut, colour, and shape your real remaining hair in a way that accentuates your best features while hiding your hair loss.

A Comb-Over

You have probably seen this on someone at some point in your life. It is a favorite way men, in particular, like to try and hide their hair loss. However, no one is being fooled. Comb-overs are when hair is grown out longer on the sides of the head and are rearranged over top of the bald spot in an attempt to hide the balding. The biggest issue with this particular method is from a practical standpoint. Comb-overs are not known to stay in place. Like any hair, it moves around throughout the day, with any wind, and regular general movement. An alternative? Go blond. Hair loss in light coloured hair is less noticeable.

Botched Hair Plugs

Hair plugs are becoming a thing of the past. There are new techniques available that are much more effective and natural looking. Such as hair grafts that take hair from another part of the head and are placed in the thinning or balding areas to give a much more realistic look. For hair restoration surgery, it is imperative that you find a competent specialist with a stellar track record of successful and happy clients. Don’t just go to anyone. Make sure to read their reviews and look at their before and after photos before you put your hairs life in their hands.

There was a study published in October 2013 from the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, where researchers reported finding that cloning hair cells is going to end hair loss, one day.  There has been progress made in these cloned hair cells that makes them grow when planted in the scalp.

Wearing Hats

There is one way to completely cover up thinning or balding hair, a hat. However, wearing a hat every day is most often not practical. A better way to hide unwanted hair loss is to invest in a high-quality wig. There is a wide variety available on the market today, all you have to do is find the right one for you from a reputable seller. In order to get the most natural looking hair from your wig is to purchase one made with human hair. This is the best way to make sure you have the most natural look and feel to it. Real human hair can also be easily styled by a professional. When you get a wig, you no longer have to wear hats as a necessity, but for fashion purposes instead.

No Mullets

You might think that growing out your hair will maximize what you have left, however, this can actually accentuate your hair loss in other areas. A reliable way to encourage hair growth for both male and female pattern hair loss is with an over-the-counter foaming solution of minoxidil. Using this can take about nine months to work. If you are looking for a quicker fix while you wait, find a professional hair stylist to cut your hair so that it looks fuller, instead of longer.
